Disney Recap 2016: Biergarten

This week, I’m sharing a series of dining reviews from my recent trip to Disney World. You can check out my reviews of days one, two, three, and four, and stay tuned throughout the week for more food allergy “magic!”

In my experience, Disney has always been exceptional when it comes to accommodating food allergies. In my opinion, it is one of the most allergy-friendly places I’ve ever been (with the exception of maybe my apartment kitchen because it is 100% gluten-free hah). This is incredible to me, because despite the high volume of diners and visitors that enter the parks, resorts and cruises every day (food allergic or not), Disney doesn’t let their quality of food, safety and service diminish in any way. And for that, I am truly grateful.

IMG_0254Pretty much all of my experiences have been positive, but sometimes, a particular restaurant will go above and beyond my expectations. Such is the case with Biergarten, the German table-service restaurant in Epcot’s World Showcase. This restaurant has been a family favorite for quite some time, and I believe it was one of, if not the first place that ever gave me Enjoy Life Chocolate Chip Crunchy Cookies as a dessert several years ago. #Meaningful

This year, Chef Jerry came to the table to talk to me about the menu and show me around the buffet. He pretty much knew that entire spread and allergen information off the top of his head. So impressive! For the random ingredients that he wasn’t positive about (ie corn derivatives – those are hard), he pulled out this massive bible of ingredients (which marked corn and apples!!). I actually had a lot of options, and he graciously offered to get me anything I wanted from the back of the house to avoid cross contact (what a pal!).

I had such a good meal here: salad, Ener-G rolls (how have I not tried these before this week? I don’t even like bread that much but it was so exciting to get bread service!), beets, carrot salad, and cabbage salad rounded out my first plate. Which was closely followed by a giant plate of bratwurst, sauerkraut (fave), garlic green beans, German potato salad roasted potatoes…Seriously, so much food! And it was all sooo good. Especially the sauerkraut. Always a fan.

IMG_2318Probably the best part of dinner was when Chef Jerry was (of course) telling me that I couldn’t have any of the desserts on the buffet, and asked me instead if I’d ever heard of Enjoy Life products. Lol. Have I heard of Enjoy Life. I told him, yes – I actually work for them, which led to a 10-minute conversation about what it’s like to work there, the new Mini Cookies that launched that week, and us bonding over our love for the Soft Baked Snickerdoodles. It was basically the greatest. He loaded me up with some Crunchy Cookies and Ricemilk Crunch Chocolate Bars for the road. And later, he came by to pass along the sweet words of another customer who was ecstatic to find Enjoy Life products at the restaurant. I love that so much, and I honestly can’t say enough how honored I am to be part of a company that has such a profound impact on and relationship with consumers.
